A Brief Intro

Hello Friends, (or at least internet randos) One thing I'd like to do more of on the Internet in general is sharing positive things. To that end, I'd like to occasionally make a post like this one collecting some of the things I've been enjoying recently. A "Thing" in this context could be anything, a song, a gadget, a hobby, a video game, whatever. I named this blog random ramblings for a reason, I have a ton of varied interest in all kinds of things, you never know what you're going to get.

Disc Golf Form Work

For our anniversary earlier this month, my wife got me a Tech Disc. If you're not into disc golf, you might not know that trying to throw a plastic circle over 300 feet through the air is a pretty difficult task. There's a lot of variables that go into the flight of a disc and throwing both far and accurately is difficult. That's where the Tech Disc comes in. From the top a tech disc is just a standard disc golf disc; it's an injected molded circle of plastic with a wing, mine specifically is an Innova TL3. The magic of the tech disc however is that there is a little black puck epoxied into the bottom center of the disc. This little puck contains senors, a computer, and a Bluetooth radio that allow you track 6 stats about a throw withing just a few feet of flight and send it to your phone instantly. This means that you can throw it into a net and not have to walk very far to collect your disc and can still get some idea about how it would have flown

I've only had it for a few days now and have only done 2 sessions but I have confirmed what my biggest issue is with my throws (5-6 degrees nose up is no bueno) and I think I have some ideas on how to correct it.

Good Kid

Good Kid is a Canadian Indie pop-rock band that has been gaining popularity online for a few years now and they just released their debut album. Wikipedi lists the following as some of their influences to give you a touchstone. "The band has taken influence from Bloc Party, Two Door Cinema Club, Gorillaz, and Twenty One Pilots." They're on tour right now after releasing their first full album, Can We Hang Out Sometime and I just went to a show last night. If you like high energy, upbeat pop-rock, give the album a listen, there are absolutely no skips.

Vibe Coded Disc Golf Inventory App

I've been working for a while with Google Antigravity to make my own Disc Golf inventory app. It's been working surprisingly well for me. It's on Github and entirely open source if you're also a disc golf nerd with too many discs and the know how to pull a docker container and run it somewhere. I'm considering pivoting it to a SaaS hosted app to allow for people to use it easier, but honestly, there are so many similar apps out there that I might not and just keep this one for me and possibly other nerds who discover it through random little posts like this. I mostly just like cosplaying as a web developer despite having little to no relevant skills. "I'm not a web dev, I just play one on the internet"
